It is a typical south Indian dish, which everyone would surely like it
One weekend I tried the recipe from my mom with few changes in the procedure of preparing it and also included few more ingredients, everyone @ home loved it.
Ingredients:
Serves 3 people
Raw rice (sona masuri/jeera rice / basmati)

1 ½ cups (250 gm)

Ripened tomatoes (red in color)
|
4 medium sized
|
Bay leaf,cloves,cinnamon
|
2 each
|
Onion sliced
|
1 medium sized
|
Turmeric powder
|
1 pinch
|
Red chilli powder
|
1 tsp
|
Oil
|
4-5 tbsp
|
Salt to taste
|
as per taste
|
Water
|
3cups
|
To grind to paste
Green chillies
|
1 or 2
|
Grated coconut
|
2 tbsp
|
Coriander leaves
|
little
|
Dhaniya powder
|
¼ tsp
|
Garlic
|
5 cloves
|
Ginger
|
½ inch
|
Cinnamon
|
1/2 inch piece
|
Cloves
|
2 cloves
|
Method :
1. Cut the tomatoes into small pieces and grind it and keep it aside.
2. Grind the ingredients mentioned above to grind to paste.
3. wash and soak the raw rice.
4. Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel and add the bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon and then the long sliced onions. Fry the onion till they become transparent.
5. Add the grinded paste (2) and fry for 3-4 min.
6. Add turmeric powder and then the grinded tomatoes (1) and keep frying for 5 min or till the oil separates out.
7. Then add the soaked rice and fry for 3 min.
8. Now add the water and salt.
9. Once the water reduces close the vessel with a lid and reduce the flame and let it cook for 5 min.Serve the dish hot in a plate.
Note: Instead of vessel, the above dish can be also prepared in the pressure cooker.
