Khichdi

My experiment of the typical Gujarati dish , with my choice of ingredients

Ingredients

Serves 4 adults
Measurement 1 cup = 125gm

Rice – 3/4 cup (100 gm)
Moong dhal – ½ cup
Thur dhal -3/4 cup
Crushed garlic cloves – 10 nos
Curry leaves – few
Coriander leaves – few
Tomato – 1 big (cut into small pieces)
Green chillies – 2 (slit into 2 pieces)
Water – 7 cups (the same cup as used for rice and dhal measurements)
Dhaniya powder – 1 tsp
Red chilli powder – as per taste
Pepper powder -little
Turmeric powder – little
Salt – as per taste
Oil and ghee

Procedure 

Method
  •       Heat oil and ghee in a cooker, add the garlic,green chillies,curry leaves .fry for few seconds.
  •       Add tomato and fry till it is cooked.
  •       Add the raw rice,dhals and the powders and salt
  •       Fry for few seconds and add water.close the cooker lid, with the whistle and cook as long as you cook rice and serve hot with any pickle and ghee.
